The Supporters Club celebrated its 20th Anniversary in style - more than 70 supporters enjoyed a Drinks Reception in Lloyds Lounge and then a Dinner at Sabatini's in Exeter. Joining us for the evening were three of the four Founding members of ECSC - David Brown, Roy Huxtable, and John Lockyer (regrettably Rueben Miles was unable to attend). We were also delighted to entertain as our guests John Baxter, President Elect of Exeter Rugby Club and his wife Bobbi.
Lloyds Lounge was decked out with flags nd scarves from the many European Clubs we have visited over the past 14 years, and memorabilia from the last 20 years were also on display. Drinks flowed as did the lively conversations. The first hour went all too quickly. On the short walk over to Sabatini's, the whole group posed for a photograph to mark the occasion.
Sabatini's treated us to an excellent meal in very pleasant surroundings with a great atmosphere. Members were very generous in supporting both the raffle and auction. Supporters' Club Chair, Richard Cresswell, highlighted just how far Exeter Chiefs have progressed over the past 20 years, both in terms of playing success and its support base. He paid tribute to the many members, past and present, who have served on the Supporters' Club Committee helping to promote rugby enjoyment and raising money to support youth and development rugby for both men and women throughout the South West.
The Supporters' Club have raised an incredible £119,000 over the past 20 years, helping dozens of local clubs maintain vibrant youth sections and perhaps even developing potential Chiefs of the future.
Richard ended by proposing a toast to the Exeter Chiefs Supporters' Club and its members, particularly remembering those no longer with us.
In reply, John Baxter thanked the ECSC for inviting him and stressed the importance of the supporters to the Exeter Chiefs team - he reminded us that when the support and the team bond together at Sandy Park, the atmosphere is truly electric.
